The Hingham Highway Department pulled a Nash Rambler out of the Whiting Street Quarry in 1954 using “The Winch,” a Mack dump truck chassis converted into a heavy-duty wrecker. During the winter snow storms, they would put on a plow blade on it and use it to plow Rt. 228. During the Blizzard of ’78 it was used in Hingham and then loaned out to Weymouth. The 8 men on the cliff are (l-r) John Stoddard, Louis Keith, Mr. MacKenzie, Richie Carnes, Howard Black, Oscar Beck, Herb Cole, and Jimmy Hone. In the boat are Bobby Hall and Roger Lincoln. The photo is from Bare Cove Fire Museum.
