Marketing students from two classes at HHS were paired up with several businesses at Derby Street Shops for multiple weeks in November and December of 2021. This collaborative effort connected students with existing tenants, future tenants and some marketing challenges that typically accompany many outdoor lifestyle shopping centers. Student teams developed marketing plans and conducted market research for Rev’d Indoor Cycling, Pulse - A Barre by Jenn Studio and Shake Shake (which is coming soon) - in addition to evaluating potential footwear tenants and optimizing the use of outdoor space.
Students were able to use 21st century skills throughout this project. Student teams worked with Derby Street Shops to understand their assigned business while identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The project culminated in an in-class marketing presentation to Derby Street Management. Students obtained some real business experience by tackling current marketing challenges and proposing potential solutions - including a mobile application. Students were expected to communicate effectively, work cooperatively and apply marketing concepts to their assigned real-world business challenge.
The following students participated on the following marketing challenges:
Rev’d Indoor Cycling: Kate DiBartolomeo, Katy Mulflur, Sally Clow, Ashley Jewell, Michael Schwartz, Hayes Grimm, Kyle Gidman, Mark Botello
Pulse - A Barre by Jenn Studio: Chase Mello, Colin Chisholm, Logan Ebels, Marcus Mangili, Elizabeth Murphy, Lindsay Kenneway, Bridgette Harrington and Lucy Lashar.
Shake Shack: Brennan Beiter, Keegan Mahon, Caroline Bilodeau, Saif Nasr, Ella Bousquet, Allie Briggs, Catherine Duff and Sara Ryan.
Woody Wall: James Rozanitis, Evan Vassil, Ben Farrington, Finn Osterberg, Aidan Chan, Aidan Costello, Kim Huynh and Skylar Shickel.
Retail footwear: Joe Hennessey, Connor Lasch, Colin Haughey, Steven McDougall, Jack Kososki, Conor McCann, Quin Sheehan and Jude Denning.
We’d like to thank Derby Street Shops for their support and cooperation. We are appreciative of their time and for allowing our students to develop and apply their knowledge and skills in their own backyard.
