Hingham High School has announced the appointment of Danielle Farina as the Head Coach for its newly established High School Cheerleading program. With a lifelong passion for cheerleading and a wealth of coaching experience, Danielle is eager to lead the program into its inaugural season.

Danielle’s cheerleading experience began in her middle school years, and she continued to excel in the sport throughout high school, cheering for a state championship football team in Pennsylvania. In college, she had the opportunity to participate at the Division 1 level for Temple University in Philadelphia, where she got to cheer on the sidelines at The Linc (the Eagle’s football stadium), travel the country for NCAA basketball tournaments, and compete at UCA and NCA nationals in Florida.

Over the past four years, Danielle has been a volunteer coach for Hingham’s Youth Cheerleading program and she has been an integral part of the program’s growth and success. “I’ve seen these kids grow into incredible athletes these last few years and I’m beyond excited to have the opportunity to introduce cheerleading at the high school for them,” said Danielle. “There’s so much talent in our Youth Cheer program and I’m grateful that they now have an outlet to continue advancing their skills and represent Hingham at this level.”

In addition to the benefits the program will offer its athletes, Danielle is excited to see how the community benefits from the Cheer program. “We intend to partner with the Red Army, Band, and Dance team to make sure that Hingham sporting events are fun and memorable for the whole community,” Danielle said. She has also committed to making sure that Cheerleaders are present for other community staple events like the Turkey Trot and the 4th of July Parade, as well as other events that the community wants to invite the team to.

As the team prepares for its first season, Danielle is gearing up for try-outs for the fall cheer team this May. She encourages all interested athletes to attend an informational meeting for athletes and parents, which will take place on Wednesday, April 30th at 6:00 pm at the High School. This meeting will provide important details about the expectations for athletes, what to anticipate at try-outs, and the commitment required for the program. Danielle stresses the importance of having both athletes and their families fully aligned with the goals of the cheer program and the values that will represent Hingham High School.

“As a new program, we have a lot to prove in our first year,” Danielle explained. “It’s important that both the athletes and their families understand the level of commitment required for practices, games, and competitions. But it’s also crucial that they value what it means to be a Hingham High School Cheerleader both on and off the field. Our athletes will represent Hingham with pride and integrity.”

In preparation for try-outs, Danielle will host open gyms two times prior to the try-out dates, which will serve as opportunities for skill-building and team bonding. While attending open gyms is not mandatory for participation in the try-outs, Danielle strongly encourages all interested athletes to take part.

Try-outs will be held over the course of three days: May 26th, 27th, and 28th. The first two days will focus on learning material such as sideline chants and dance routines. The final day, May 28th, will consist of judged try-outs where athletes will demonstrate their skills for a panel of judges. The team will be announced after the try-outs.

Danielle encourages any competitive athletes who are interested in cheerleading to give it a try. “Cheerleading is an incredibly athletic sport that requires strength, agility, and mental toughness,” she said. “Past cheer experience is not required to try out, but students should be physically and mentally prepared for the demands of the sport.”

In addition to building the team, Danielle is also building a coaching staff. She invites anyone interested in supporting the program to reach out to her directly at hinghamhscheer@gmail.com.
