In their Sunday home opener the 6th graders dominated Scituate/Cohasset 41-0. On the opening series SciCoh tried to strike quickly through the air but intense pressure from lineman Brayden Huber forced a quick pass and Evan Tomasello made the tackle for just a 2 yard gain. On a 4th and long Shamus Devine’s stretched out arms batted down the pass to force a turnover on downs. Working with a short field on offense the Raiders QB Hudson Garrity hit Brayden Huber on a crossing pass route for a 15 yard gain. Behind an intense block from Andy Gerlach, RB Tomasello hit the open hole for another first down to continue the drive. Then QB Hudson Garrity rolled to his right throwing a pass to Shamus Devine for a 24 yard gain setting up a first and goal from the 8 yard line. QB Hudson followed his blockers John Peterson, Frank Conway and Will Berkeley running for the 8 yard touchdown. Evan Tomasello punched it in for the extra point and a 7-0 early Raiders lead.
The defense took the field ready to play this afternoon as Will Berkeley and Frank Cavagnaro stuffed the run, followed by corner Jack Hart making a big open field tackle to force a quick SciCoh punt. Back on offense, Andy Gerlach and Declan O’Connell made punishing blocks that allowed QB Garrity to rip off consecutive first down runs. Catching the defense expecting a run play, Garrity rolled right and located Shamus Devine who managed to weave his way behind the defenders to catch a 27 yard pass for a touchdown. Andy Gerlach capped off the scoring with the extra point and the Raiders jumped out to a 14-0 lead.
Colum Cutter’s kick-off bounced off a SciCoh player and Jack Hart alertly recovered the fumble at the 49 yard line. After consecutive runs for first down on the ground, Garrity took to the air finding a leaping Andy Gerlach in the corner of the end zone for a 21 yard TD pass. RB Jack Hart punched it in for the extra point and a 21-0 lead. SciCoh had no answer for the penetrating defense led by Cavagnaro, Hubert, Conway and Duncan Wilder who shut down the drive to end the half.
Receiving the 2nd half kick the Raiders continued their relentless attack on the ground with Hudson and Tomasello earning first down runs, followed by Garrity connecting with Brayden Hubert on a slant pass for a 24 yard gain setting up a first and goal. Linemen Peterson, Conway and Cavagnaro cleared a hole for Garrity to trot in for the 28-0 lead. The defense remained aggressive attacking at the line of scrimmage as Brayden Huber, having an all-star day, forced a fumble that Will Berkeley recovered at mid-field. Good teams capitalize on opponents mistakes and that just what Evan Tomasello did sprinting 49 yards around the end for a touchdown. RB Johnny Heller capped off the drive with the point after run to take a commanding 35-0 lead in the 3rd quarter. Obviously in control, the Raiders fed SciCoh a steady diet of runs from Heller and Neil Deininger. Behind the blocks from Grant Riordan, Seamus Collins and Connor Jones, Deininger ran through several would be tacklers for a 27 yard touchdown to secure the impressive 41-0 home opener shutout win for coach Forger’s squad
Come cheer on the 6th graders next Sunday 1:00pm at Hingham High as they take on archrival Bridgewater.
