Selectman Joe Fisher assures residents that the board is doing what they can to assist residents and businesses during the coronavirus crisis. "We remain ever-vigilant to making everyone's burden just a little bit easier [to bear]," he said.
Selectman Mary Power encourages residents to visit the Hingham Downtown Association's website, discoverhingham.com. "There are opportunities to make a donation and to purchase gift cards for select merchants as ways to support them," she said.
Any funds received will further support the HDA's efforts to ensure the continuation of a strong downtown community of businesses through events and promotions, "which will be more important than ever after we get through this crisis," according to the website.
Power also encourages residents to support the Hingham restaurants that are providing carry-out service, including family-style meals, to help the community [during this time] and to maintain employment," Power said.
Selectmen Chair Karen Johnson expressed appreciation for the efforts of Sen. Patrick O'Connor, Reps. Joan Meschino and James Murphy, and Congressman Stephen Lynch for helping to maintain good communication at the federal and state levels in support of both the residents and businesses of Hingham.
Overall, Johnson said, "I am amazed everyday at the extent to which people will go out of their way to proactively help one another," including town and school officials and the entire community. "I think we're very lucky."
