If you haven’t been into Ralph’s Hingham Wine Merchant in Downtown Hingham, we suggest you check it out.  Sommelier Ralph Hersom and his wife Chef Kim,  have created a special destination for fine food, craft beer and wine.  They pride themselves on creating an atmosphere in their store that is welcoming, educational and—most important—fun. We can testify that it is all of that and more.   We asked Ralph if he could share some of his favorite wines to pair with Thanksgiving dinner for under $30 with all of you.  If you decide to pop them open before Thursday’s main meal, we don’t blame you one bit.  Cheers!

2016 Metz Pinot Gris-From Alsace France comes this delicious white wine made from 100% Pinot Gris. A very versatile wine that pairs well with so many different foods and flavors making it the perfect “go to” white wine for Thanksgiving.

2015 Domaine Coillot Marsannay “La Charme aux Pretres”-From Burgundy France comes this delicious red wine made from 100% Pinot Noir.  Turkey loves Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir loves Turkey!  Aromas of red fruits with a hint of spice combine beautifully in this elegant red wine.

2016 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Villages CuveeI’ve been a big fan of winemaker Mark Vlossak’s wines since my NYC days and this is another gem!  Produced from 100% Pinot Noir grown in the Willamette Valley with most of the grapes coming from their Zenith Vineyard.  Hints of cranberries in the nose, impeccably balanced on the finish with just the right amount of oak used.  Limited production of only 2620 cases.

2016 Precedent Zinfandel Evangelho Vineyard-A knockout red wine to sip on after you consumed the Pinot Noir these Zinfandel vineyards were planted in 1890 yes that’s correct 1890! One of the oldest vineyard sites in California that have been farmed by the Evangelho family for decades.  Jammy red and black fruit scented full-bodied red that makes for perfect sipping by the fire.

All of the above wines are available at Ralph’s Hingham Wine Merchant located at 74 North Street.  They host weekly craft beer tastings every Friday from 5-7 and weekly wine tastings on Saturday’s from 2-5.  They also host private events and a very popular series of wine and food classes aptly called “Corks and Forks.”  Stop on in and tell them the Anchor sent you!
