Colleen is the owner of A Pet's Life South Shore, a pet care-taking company based in Hingham. After working in the corporate world and growing tired of the long hours, Colleen left to start her business and pursue her passion. Her company offers doggie day care, dog walking, in-home boarding and pet sitting. "I have always had an inherent love and passion for animals and feel so fortunate to have turned that passion into a business," says Kennedy. Colleen lives in Hingham with her husband Frank and three their 3 girls, Bella, Bianca and Bria.
Hingham, meet Colleen.
What inspired you to start your business?
I have always wanted to work with animals since I was younger. When I first moved to Hingham about 7 years ago I decided to leave my full time office job and pursue my passion. At first it was just myself walking a few dogs a day, I was able to get my name out there through recommendations from clients and my business grew from there. I now have an amazing team of seven.
What is your favorite breed of dog and why?
This is probably the hardest question for me to answer because I absolutely love all of the dogs (and cats) I take care of like they were my own. Many of them I have known since they were little puppies and/or have known for a long time and the love really grows so strong. I would have to say my favorite breed of dog is Maltese as I have two Maltese of my own and they are my furry family members, I don't know what I would do without them.
Where is your favorite place in town to walk dogs?
Blackrock Country Club is such a beautiful spot to walk. It's so peaceful and not a lot of traffic.
When presented with two options, when did you make a choice that totally changed the course of your life.
When I started my business I made a choice to drastically change my life for the better from working a 12/13 hour day in an office which for me personally was very empty and not rewarding to making the major decision to pursue my passion and love for animals and make it my life.
What do you love most about Hingham?
I love Hingham because it is very family oriented like myself and a lot of people share my love for animals.
Favorite local spot?
I love Hingham Beer Works when we are with the kids because it's so family friendly.
Favorite date night/night out spot?
Alma Nove, Frank and I got engaged there and have had many great dates and events there.
Favorite house in Hingham?
I absolutely love my own house (is that ok to say? I mean I'm sure everyone does)
If you had a different career, what would it be?
I really love to be outside and would love to be a farmer and have the opportunity to work with farm animals.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to travel with my husband to Italy. (Frank is full Italian)
Do you have a hidden talent?
A lot of people don't know I was an art major in college and I am very creative and artistic.
What is your beverage of choice/go-to cocktail?
I don't drink hard alcohol and I am allergic to wine lol so I'm a beer girl and Harpoon verities are my favorite.
Favorite vacation spot?
Disney World; this sounds so cliche but it really is a magical place and I have had some of the best vacations there with my family.
What's one thing people may not know about you?
I am from a very small new England town in NH and I was the only child born in the town the year I was born. (Do I have to say the year? lol)
Colleen sounds like the perfect person to take care of my dog Honey. Unfortunately I live in New Hampshire.
