Derby Summer Arts may look different this year, but the spirit remains the same. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the camp’s 32nd year is moving its activities online, offering more than 30 courses in musical theatre, drama, visual arts, music, comedy, and more this summer.

The online courses, which run the month of July, offer an array of ways to stay creative, keep the connections going, and have a great summer experience.

As one of the longest-running summer camps on the South Shore, Derby Summer Arts has been a favorite summer experience for the extended community for over three decades now, often welcoming campers from neighboring towns beyond Hingham and Cohasset. The move toward hosting courses online creates an opportunity to welcome new communities, campers, as well as new course instructors.

“The online format removes geographic boundaries, allowing anyone to join,” said Derby Summer Arts Director Thalia McMillion. “It encourages everyone to explore novel and innovative ways to pursue passions, and we’re looking forward to seeing all our campers’ creativity and innovation.”

The virtual experiences also welcome some new opportunities made possible by the online platforms, like learning how to create your own NBA and MLB franchises, classes in sketch comedy and improv, and at-home cooking classes.
