Marjorie Evelyn (Pearce) Curtis Obituary

Marjorie Evelyn (Pearce) Curtis

August 14, 2020

Marjorie Evelyn Pearce Curtis passed away peacefully on August 14, 2020 surrounded by her family.  Born in Quincy, MA, on July 25, 1922 to John and Elizabeth Pearce, Marjorie attended Quincy high school and worked for her father at his Quaker Maple Chair Company. She met her husband, Thomas Edward Curtis, when he asked her to dance, which they both enjoyed doing throughout their lives. Marge dedicated her life to her family, first as a caring daughter and sister to nine siblings and then applying her many gifts as a supportive wife, wonderful mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

In the 1950’s, as their family and the Curtis Farms grocery business grew, Marge and Tom settled in Hingham, MA where they raised seven children and helped found the Crow Point Sailing Club, which became the backbone of a lifelong community of sailors and friends.

When their children were grown, Marge and Tom moved to Florida, where they happily gained a new community of friends at Frenchman’s Creek in Palm Beach Gardens.  Marge loved to play tennis, was an avid bridge player, and took great pleasure in sharing her passion for music, movies, and theatre. She would break into song with the mention of a word and sang so often that her favorites are now being sung by her great-grandchildren; her spirit lives on in them and in all who were lucky enough to have known her.

Marjorie was the beloved wife of the late Thomas E. Curtis, beloved mother of Elizabeth Curtis of New York, Dianne Curtis and her husband Richard D’Autilio of Florida, Sarah Hanlon of Hingham, Jonathan Curtis and his wife Malinda Curtis of Maine, and of the late Thomas E. Curtis Jr., Kathleen M. Curtis, Brian P. Curtis and Brian’s surviving wife Margaret Curtis.

She was the beloved “Nana” of Kelly Murray O’Sullivan and her husband Collin, Shawna Murray, Katlyn Murray, Thomas W. Curtis and his wife Lauren, Emily Pott and her husband Brian, Jennifer Sullivan and her husband Jeremiah, James Hanlon and his wife Tess, Joanne Olson and her husband Kevin, Jake Hanlon, Curtis Green, Pearce Green, Samantha Curtis, Nathaniel Curtis, Eric Anderson and his partner Christine, Tina Stephens and her husband Robert, Sarah D’Autilio and Laura Shinney and her husband William. The beloved great-grandmother to Ella Sullivan, Jeremiah Sullivan, Jack Sullivan, Madeleine Pott, Sean Olson, Thomas W. Curtis, Jr., Kathleen Stephens and Liam Shinney.

Marjorie was the beloved sister of Geraldine Sweeney and Dorothy Tracy and the late Lillian Thomas, Judy Folmsbee, Marion Hill, John Pearce and Elizabeth “Betty” Houston as well as surviving sister-in-law Noreen Curtis and beloved aunt to many, many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie’s family will celebrate her life in a private burial service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to New England Wildlife Center, located at 500 Columbian Street in Weymouth, MA 02190

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of the South Shore or Norwell VNA.
