After some much-needed rain this past week, a beautiful stretch of weather returns to the South Shore this week! Here are three things to know about our upcoming weather.
1. Mild weather this week.
At this point in October, our afternoon high temperatures should be near 60 degrees but this week we’ll be above average temps, and by several degrees in many cases; high temperatures on Monday will start the week in the low 60s, but for the rest of the work-week highs will pop into the upper 60s, if not near 70 degrees! You can expect us to settle back closer to normal, meaning a bit cooler again, by next weekend.
2. Back to dry weather!
This week will bring very few rain chances to Hingham; aside from perhaps a spot shower here or there mid-week (Wednesday), most days will feature a blend of sunshine and clouds.
Last week made a nice dent in our rainfall deficit, with 4.61” of rain falling in Hingham. That’s more than what we typically see in a typical month! Still, even with that rain, the South Shore remains in “extreme” drought as we head deeper into fall.
3. Peaking this week: fall foliage (plus a meteor shower!)
There are some exciting things peaking this week in nature: the first is foliage. We’re quickly approaching peak foliage in Hingham, with beautiful yellows and oranges all through town, mixed with some vibrant pops of red.
At the same time, we’re also reaching the peak of the Orionid Meteor shower. Between midnight and dawn this week, keep an eye out for what many people call “shooting stars.” These meteors are fast movers, and require a dark spot to identify. Away from street lights, or other bright areas, you may be able to spot a few zooming through the sky as Earth passes through debris from Comet Halley.
