Whether we like it or not the cold temperatures are likely here to stay for a few more months. If you’re like us, sometimes you want to stay inside and achieve hygge. However, after a bit sometimes you just need to get out and get some fresh (albeit frigid) air and escape your house. If you’re not heading north to the mountains, here are a few local things happening in the 02043 when you just gotta get out.
1.) Hingham’s Recreation’s East Street Skate House: There is a Skate House located on East Street Hingham (a red hut on the right side of the street if you’re heading towards Cohasset). The Skate House is run by the Hingham Recreation Department and has open skate hours when the pond is frozen Mon-Fri from 3:00pm-6:00pm and Saturday/Sunday from 9:30am-6:00pm. The Skate House usually has a fire going and hot chocolate when you need to warm up! Cost is typically $3 per skater.
2.) Winter Indoor Playground at the Hingham Rec Center: Kids ages 0-5 are invited to come with an adult to explore the Hingham Rec’s Winter Indoor Playground which includes ride on toys, obstacle courses, climbing structures, and tumbling mats that provide energy burning fun for your baby or toddler – all in the warmth and safety of the Hingham Rec Gymnasium. Each week brings new surprises (bouncy houses, dress-up costumes, and so much more). The indoor playground runs through March 17, 2019 every Friday from 3:00pm-5:15pm and Saturdays 8:30am-11:00am. There is a charge of $8 per child. No reservations required you can just drop-in.
3.) Free Ice Skating at Resurrection Church: There is an outdoor skating rink at the Resurrection Church (1057 Main Street, Hingham). Skating is free for all to enjoy but there is no provided adult supervision so all skaters are welcome to skate at their own risk. Bring your own equipment!
4.) Beer/Wine Tastings at Ralph’s: You can get outside and then warm up your insides with a beer or wine tasting at Ralph’s Hingham Wine Merchant. Ralph’s is located at 74 North Street and they host weekly craft beer tastings every Friday from 5-7 and weekly wine tastings on Saturday’s from 2-5.
5.) Indoor Winters Farmers Market: The well loved Hingham Farmers Market is once again opening its winter session at 2nd Parish Church (685 Main St., Hingham). The market’s hours are 10am – 1pm on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays during January, February and March. Among those vendors present at the winter market will be: Freitas Farms (Produce), Skinny Dip Farm (Organic produce), Copicut Farm (Poultry, eggs and pork), River Rock Farm (Beef), Jordan Brothers (Shellfish and seafood), C & C Lobsters and Fish (Fresh lobsters and seafood), To Dine For (Mediterranean foods), Stephanie’s Sourdough (Breads), Spritzal Cookie Company (Cookies) and Chrissy’s Crumble (No-grain-olas).
6.) Hingham Recreation Game Room: Have bored tweens or teens at home? The Rec Gameroom is open to the public Monday-Thursday 3:00pm – 5:00pm and Friday, Saturday and Sundays 3:00pm – 6:00pm. Want to shoot some hoops? The Rec Basketball Gym is also open to the public Tuesdays and Wednesdays 3:00pm – 5:00pm and Saturdays, and Sundays 3:00pm-6:00pm.
Here are just a few ideas to keep you busy (and help keep your sanity) this winter. Did we miss something? Let us know in the comments and we’ll add it to the list.
