Attention, beach lovers! The Bathing Beach Trustees are targeting the 2019 summer season for completion of the new bathhouse/concession stand/maritime-themed community room if all goes as planned.

Site work for the long-awaited project is underway at the Hingham Bathing Beach off Rte. 3A. Trustee Alan Perrault reports that the project is progressing, with utilities already in place.  “The modular building sections should be delivered by April 1 and the inside and outside work finished in the following months,” he said.

The harborfront brick walkway was extended earlier, winding along the grove near the existing bathhouse and connecting with the Rte. 3A sidewalk on the northern edge in an effort to provide a safer and more enjoyable pedestrian experience.

While the bathhouse project has been delayed due to a number of issues, the Seaport Bond Council agreed to give the town an extension to complete the work that was made possible by a $700,000 Council grant. Town Meeting also approved funding for this project.

The first proposal for the new building came in over budget. So it was back to the drawing board to come up with a less-expensive but aesthetically pleasing modular design.

Thanks to a Greenbush Historic Preservation Trust grant, signs will be installed along the harborfront depicting the history of the area.

What do you like best about the Bathing Beach? Swimming, picnics, spectacular harbor views, radiant sunsets, reading a favorite novel, boating, dining at a nearby restaurant after a dip in the ocean? Summer will be here before we know it!
