AT 12:51 p.m., the Hingham dispatch center received multiple calls of a reported fire at 392 Main St. The first Hingham unit arrived at 12:54 p.m. and found the front of the house fully involved."The homeowners were all home, and they noticed an outside electric heater (installed in the ceiling on the farmer's porch) was smoking, then caught on fire," Fire Chief Steve Murphy told the Hingham Anchor. "They tried to use an extinguisher, but the fire began spreading too quickly."

The family was able to evacuate safely, and there were no injuries to them or to fire personnel.

"Any fire can be very traumatic for families, especially one with such significant damage.  I am sure it is even more overwhelming this close to the holidays," Murphy said.  "Thankfully, everyone made it out safely.  The homeowners expressed appreciation for the support they are already receiving from family, friends, and neighbors."

The state fire marshal's office is investigating with assistance from Hingham Fire investigators.  "It does not appear suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing," Murphy said.
