If you are reading this then you have made (or are in the process of making) the very smart decision of moving to the wonderful town of Hingham! One of the best features of Hingham for new residents is the active Newcomers Club in the community – one that has that over 250 members annually. This vibrant club was established back in the 1960’s and continues to be run by an active, volunteer-based board (which is always seeking new members!). The Club hosts numerous events throughout the year from September to June, and appeal to all ages from young children to adults.
The club’s mission is to welcome new residents as well as help existing Hingham families meet new friends and integrate into a social network within our town. Did you know you don’t even have to be new to town to be a newcomer?? All you need is a desire to get out, have fun and meet new people!
Since September the club’s board, led by co-presidents Hannah Nash and Kara Ferrante, has been busy planning and putting on a range of events. Sub-committees include Ladies and Mens Night out, Family Events, Special Events, Fitness, Preschool Night, and Community Outreach. Some of the most popular events have included a trip to R&C farm, making pizza at Peel Pizza, trick or treating to the firehouse, a holiday party with raffle at Tosca, yoga led by Krigsman studio, wine tasting at Ralph’s Wine Merchant, and so much more!
Beyond member events, the club also facilitates and manages playgroups and books clubs. These provide an opportunity for members to meet in smaller group settings. Residents who have joined a playgroup or book club when they first moved to Hingham often share that they are still friends with people they met 10-15+ years ago! They also offer meal trains for families, local preschool information (you can find a guide on their website) and publicize local events that are taking place that you don’t want to miss!
So now that you understand how amazing the Hingham Newcomers Club is you may be wondering how you can get involved? Membership is purchased annually and can be done on their newly revamped website: www.hinghamnewcomers.com. Once your membership is purchased, you will receive HNC’s monthly newsletter which highlights upcoming events as well as information from their local business members. Membership allows you to RSVP to upcoming events directly through the website. The club also posts upcoming events on both Facebook and Twitter so make sure to follow them on social media.
If we still haven’t convinced you to sign up (come on it’s a no brainer!), or if you have any lingering questions, you can always reach out to HNC directly by email: hinghamnewcomers@gmail.com. Don’t hesitate to make this wonderful resource in a town a part of your life – you won’t regret it and hopefully it will make Hingham feel a bit more like home!
