It’s budget season again!
The School Committee will hold a public hearing regarding the school administration’s proposed $54.8 million Fiscal 2020 school operating budget proposal next Monday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the School Department Conference Room. There will be time for comments and questions.
This represents a $2.9 million, or 5.39 percent, increase over the current year’s budget. The special education budget is up by 4.46 percent, at $13.2 million, and represents 24 percent of the overall operating budget.
Proposed new items include:
*Central Office personnel director
*6.3 teachers
*2.5 special education teachers, 2 inclusion facilitators, an applied behavior analyst, and a visiting behavior specialist
*1 adjustment counselor
Budget-related documents are posted on the Hingham Public Schools website, hinghamschools.com, under Administration-Business Office. You may also pick up a copy at the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, 220 Central Street.
The school administration and School Committee will continue to refine the proposed budget prior to the April 22 Town Meeting. Check the Town of Hingham website, hingham-ma.gov, for meeting dates and times.
The Selectmen and Advisory Committee will make their recommendations prior to Town Meeting. The AC’s recommendations on all the warrant articles will appear in the Town Meeting warrant that will be mailed to every Hingham household prior to Town Meeting, where voters have the final say.
