Gardening is fun when it is easy and productive.
The Bucket Rack Garden is an extension from Square Foot Garden. Mel Bartholomew developed the SFG technique. Two and a half million of his books have been sold. It has led millions of people around the world to enjoy fresh vegetables in a way that is productive and stressless.
Why the Bucket Rack Garden?
- No soil is used
- Minimum planting medium
- Conserve water
- No chemicals
- Hydrate with compost tea
- Big yields
- Position the rack for maximum sunlight
- Bending and weeding becomes a thing of the past
- Organized and no mess
- Easy harvests
- Extended growing season
Many people in our communities would love to bite into that first fresh ripe tomato, but there is one limiting growing factor that may have even well intentioned gardeners frustrated. I wrote the high school curriculum for urban gardening at a local high school. My wife and I work in Honduras. I have been able help the most vulnerable people grow kitchen gardens even though their topsoil has been totally depleted.
The Bucket Rack Gardens are affordable. We dumpster dive and use culls for our lumber supplies. A group of retired men have been helping with construction. Some of the buckets are repurposed coming from local restaurants and sandwich shops. We save on soil medium by filling the bottom of the buckets with sticks, leaves and a cardboard divider. We only use six to eight inches of soil medium. The design allows for the use of compost tea application and there are no harsh chemicals ever being used.
You can make one of these however I am certain that we can make one for less than what it would cost you for materials. You can get one of these by donating to our Sustainability Project in Honduras.
We deliver and will help you through the process. We encourage citizens to grow local, sink carbon into plants and the soil.
