Two Races for Town Election

By Carol Britton Meyer, February 19, 2019

There are now two races for the April 27 town election — School Committee and Board of Health, with just over two weeks remaining until the March 7 deadline for submitting completed nomination papers.

There’s a four-way race for three School Committee seats involving Joshua Ross, Nancy Correnti, and incumbents Carlos DaSilva and Elizabeth (Liza) O’Reilly. Kay Praschma is not running for re-election.

Board of Health member Kirk Shilts and Monica Staples have both returned their nomination papers, which means a race for that seat.

Another potential race is between Town Moderator Michael Puzo, who has returned his papers,  and Megan Buhr, who also pulled papers for that position but has not yet returned them.

So far Ryan Lynch is running unopposed for Sarah Melia’s Recreation Commission seat. Melia is not running for another term.

Zoning Board of Appeals member Joseph Fisher returned his nomination papers for Selectman Paul Healey’s seat.  Healey, whose term also expires this year,  has not yet announced whether he will run for another three-year term.

Thomas Patch took out papers for the Planning Board seat currently occupied by Jennifer Gay Smith, whose five-year  term expires this year. Gay has not announced yet whether she will run for re-election.

Board of Assessors member Christine Roberts, Municipal Light Board member Roger Freeman, and Housing Authority member Robert Keyes have also pulled papers. Completed papers are due back by 5 p.m. Thursday, March 7.
