Hingham girls lacrosse started their Patriot Cup run on Wednesday with a nail biter against second seeded Hanover Hawks. Before the game, the 5 seniors and their families were honored for their outstanding high school lacrosse careers. The Harborwomen got off to a quick 4-0 start with goals from juniors Shea Berigan, Ryan Maguire, Kyle Wilson and sophomore Lily Ehler. In what would be a game of streaks, Hanover came right back with 3 of their own. During the second quarter, with an 11-5 lead, Hanover ripped off 7 goals in a row, taking a 12-11 lead into halftime.
The Harborwomen, after a goalie change, shut Hanover down in a fast-paced third quarter scoring a pair of goals from Kyle Wilson and Elher. As was the story of the game, Hanover came roaring back with 4 goals of their own to start the 4th quarter giving them the 16-13 lead. Hingham fought back to the end scoring 2 goals late to cut the lead to 1, but time ran out on them. Berigan led the team with 6 goals and Kyle Wilson with 4.
The game was a double elimination game, so the Harborwomen are still in the hunt for the Patriot Cup, even with this loss. Their next playoff game is Monday, June 7th at 4:00pm vs Silver Lake. The girls take on Cohasset today in a make up game from earlier in the season.
