Fresh off a three-win week, which concluded with a 1-0 homecoming victory over Marshfield, the Hingham HS boys soccer team hit the road to take on perennial league powerhouse Silver Lake on Tuesday evening under the lights in Kingston. The Harbormen emerged, as they have in each game thus far in what has been a sterling season, with a 3-1 win in front of a boisterous crowd. The victory brought their season record to a perfect 12-0 and clinched the Patriot League title with 4 league games still remaining.
Hingham dominated the early going and seemed ready to silence the crowd with strong play. A Brian Dalimonte goal, assisted by Chris Bradley, staked the boys to a 1-0 lead which they carried into the half. The Lakers would not go down without a fight, coming out with very strong play for beginning of the 2nd half. A foul in the box gave Silver Lake a penalty kick, which was nearly saved by Hingham standout keeper Jack Price. Tied 1-1 with 35 minutes remaining, Hingham turned their game up a notch. Thomas Healey found leading scorer Cole Sampson for a gorgeous goal from the junior striker. Ten minutes later, Senior Connor Hartman sent a deft pass to Dalimonte, who calmly found Aidan Brazel for the back-breaking goal and final 3-1 score.
As the defending Patriot Cup champions from 2020, much was anticipated for the 2021 side which returned 8 starters and 7 other players who saw significant time off the bench last year. With a league title already under their belt, the Harbormen have 4 league games remaining - including tough match ups on the road with Duxbury and Marshfield - before concluding the season with non-league contests against BC High and Brockton. The team's decorated senior class includes 19 players and is scheduled to be honored at Senior Night on October 22nd, at home, versus Plymouth North.
