Carlos Da Silva is running for re-election to the School Committee so he can continue to serve the Hingham community and its students and help the town maintain its excellent educational system.

He is proud of the work that the School Committee accomplished during his first term:

*Carlos served as Vice-Chair of the Superintendent Search Screening Committee.  The transparent process resulted in the hiring of a highly qualified new superintendent, Dr. Paul Austin; Carlos hopes to be re-elected to the School Committee to help ensure a successful transition for Dr. Austin.

*As the current Chair of the Long-range Planning subcommittee, Carlos is helping to develop a ten-year Master Plan for the town’s schools. Through visits to the schools, the subcommittee identifies preventive maintenance, renovation, and remodeling projects that need to be included.  He would like to continue contributing to this effort and help finalize the plan.

*Because of Carlos’s experience and expertise, he became a member of the Salary and Negotiation Subcommittee, which is negotiating contracts with the six unions that represent Hingham’s 680+ school employees. The six contracts are in their third and final year, but the process will start again in 2020. Carlos believes his knowledge of past proceedings will be valuable to future negotiations.

Carlos has also served on:

*the search committees that recommended the appointments of the Foster School Principal and HHS Athletic Director;

*the Special Education Subcommittee;

*the Field-Wide Taskforce;

*both the Foster and High School councils;

*as the Legislative District Liaison.

Additionally, the School Committee took a stand on such important issues as school safety and security, the Save Our Public Schools initiative, reform of the Education Foundation Budget Review, and the request to ban all marijuana establishments in Hingham.

If re-elected, Carlos will continue to focus on Foster School. After having been denied funding twice by the Massachusetts School Building Authority, the School Committee will submit an application again this spring. Whether or not it is accepted, Carlos seeks to secure a successful outcome for Foster School.  And just as he has done in the last three years when parents, students, and teachers have brought issues to his attention, Carlos will continue to listen carefully and work with his colleagues on the School Committee to address public concerns.

Carlos and his wife, Rita, are the proud parents of two sons, graduates of the Hingham Public Schools, and he has long been involved in the Hingham community, having served as a member of the board of the Hingham Youth Soccer, chairman of the Field Line Subcommittee, a member of the HHS Soccer Booster Association, chairman of the HDTC, Trustee of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in Hingham, and a member of St. Paul Parish.  He holds a B.A. from the National Labor College and works as a State Auditor with the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, assigned to the South Shore.  He asks for one of your three votes on April 27th.  If you would like to host a lawn sign please send an email to: Carlosforhingham@aol.com
