Before their big rivalry game vs Duxbury last Wednesday night, the Hingham Harbormen honored 14 year old Jack Giorgio. Jack is the inspiration behind JD55, an organization created by Jack’s parents to raise awareness and give support to children battling cancer. When Jack was 11, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. During his 55th week of treatment, the tumor final started shrinking, marking a huge milestone in his journey. In addition to selling JD55 merchandise at the game, Jack dropped the ceremonial puck in front of a packed rink, and spent the game on the bench with the team.
Jack and the rest of the spectators were treated to an outstanding hockey game, which is typical when these two teams meet. Always a hard fought contest where one mistake on either side could be the difference in the game. Hingham out shot the Dragons by an almost 2:1 margin, but the game was scoreless at the end of regulation. Outstanding goaltending on both sides forced the game into OT. Just over a half a minute into OT, Duxbury failed to clear the puck out of their zone as junior Chase McKenna found an open Aidan Brazel. The junior cut a cross the goal line and put one over the goalie’s shoulder to secure the win.
“Going into the game we knew it was going to be a dog fight,” says Brazel. “But, we worked hard all game, got pucks to the net, got some pucks deep, and at the end of the day we came up with the W.”
