The intimate setting of Hingham's beautifully-restored Ames Chapel is the venue for the 2022 Dead of Winter Arts Series, featuring music, theater, and literature -- a great way to help chase away the wintertime blues.

The Here Comes Everybody Players

Because this work was funded in part with Community Preservation Act and Greenbush Historic Preservation Trust funds (administered by the Historical Commission), "we have always felt it is important to show our thanks to the town for their support in restoring this beautiful Victorian chapel [in 2015]," Friends of Hingham Cemetery member Larry Lindner told the Hingham Anchor. "One way we can do this is by putting on this annual series as inexpensively as possible so that people can enjoy a nice evening of great music, live theater, or interact with a well-known author in a warm setting." The Chapel is located in downtown Hingham on Hingham Cemetery property.

Upcoming events include:

  •  Thursday, March 3 - Bestselling author Neal Thompson will talk about, and sign copies of,  his latest book, "The First Kennedys: The Humble Roots of an American Dynasty." He is the author of five other highly-acclaimed books and has written for The New York Times, Vanity Fair, and other publications. In addition to being a talented author, Thompson is also a good public speaker, according to Lindner.
  •  Saturday, March 5 - The Here Comes Everybody Players, who have performed all over North America and Europe, will celebrate not only the richness of James Joyce's unique stories, but will also bring to vivid life the humor and humanity of his characters. This performance features live music and audience participation.
"These are light-hearted and highly-accessible theatrical interpretations of the works of James Joyce," Lindner said.
  •  Saturday, April 23 - Back by popular demand, jazz/pop singer Cassandre McKinley and her three-piece band will keep the audience entertained throughout the evening.
"People tend to come early [to these events] and enjoy a drink and then stay after the performance to meet the talent and chat," Lindner said. "It's not just about sitting down and watching a performance and then leaving. It feels like a get-together at someone's home, except with more people. This series is all about entertainment plus a social vibe."

Tickets are $25 each, including wine, beer, and refreshments. Visit www.hinghamcemetery.org for more details and to purchase tickets. The Dead of Winter Arts Series is made possible by a grant from the Hingham Cultural Council.
