The recently-opened Anyi Massage & Spa at 185B Lincoln St. offers to the local community quality massage and spa services provided by professional masseuses trained in both Eastern and Western traditional and modern techniques.
In Chinese, "Anyi" means “comfortable and relaxing," founder Suet Kwan (Queenie) Mang told the Hingham Anchor. This is how she desires her clients to feel during and after they visit the spa. "It’s important to us that they are relaxed. Only through a relaxed body and mind can you receive the full benefits of massage therapy."
Anyi Spa opened in mid-February out of respect and enthusiasm for the massage profession.
It's a comfortable, and elegant place to be, with a theme consisting of black and white photos resembling a simple, focused view on health and life.
The entrance provides a relaxing gateway into the spa, featuring photos of Cape Cod beaches and shorelines — some of the highlights that first drew Queenie to the area -- with the hope of creating a tranquil atmosphere for customers as well. “This is where you come to relax," she said.
Once inside the spa, clients find a newly-remodeled suite featuring a bright and clean atmosphere with plenty of space for clients within the therapy rooms as well as in the large waiting/lobby area.
Each massage therapy room features a large black and white photo of a massage technique that, aside from being a striking visual, creates a sense of place and mentally prepares clients for their treatment.
Currently, Anyi Spa offers both traditional and specialty massage services as well as a variety of oil treatments, such as hemp and CBD oil, Tiger Balm and other muscle-relaxing oils.
In addition to the more common acupressure and Swedish massage, Anyi offers a new, unique therapy called "Thai Herbal Ball Massage Therapy," consisting of the application of cloth balls filled with herbs that are heated and pressed against the skin and muscles to provide therapeutic effects on the muscles.
"Anyi also offers foot massage services as well as trigger point and Myofascial release and prenatal massages for women living in Hingham, Cohasset, and the surrounding area," Queenie explained. Anyi will soon offer spa treatments such as facials and body waxing.
The spa is looking to enhance awareness within the community and to grow its clientele. "Ideally, we will have a variety of returning customers who become regulars and integrate massage and spa therapy into their ongoing routines," Queenie said. "We also welcome clients who want to try massage for the first time or seek occasional massage and spa treatments."
Many of Anyi Spa's first clients have already become regulars, booking additional sessions immediately after their first one.
"The door is open to everyone," Queenie said. "We welcome all clients -- from children to the elderly -- regardless of gender, race, or nationality."
Originally from Fuyang, China, in the Anhui province to the west of Shanghai, Queenie -- who came to Boston from Hong Kong in 2014 and moved to Hingham from Quincy in 2022 -- opened three spas in the area: Sunshine Day Spa in Weymouth, Health Massage Center in Bourne, and a third in Worcester.
In 2015, she decided to change her business, so she closed the spas and opened Yuki, a Chinese Hot Pot restaurant in Somerville, which she ran until 2019.
Since the restaurant’s closing, Queenie — who is certified in massage therapy, cosmetology, and manicures — decided to return to the personal health care industry and concentrate her efforts there. Her latest endeavor is opening the Hingham spa.
Queenie has been studying and practicing massage therapy for more than 15 years and is continually seeking ways to improve the mental and physical health and comfort of her clients so they can enjoy a healthier and happier life.
In her earlier years, Queenie taught in the daycare profession and then had a singing career that eventually led her to Shenzhen, just outside of Hong Kong. There she continued with her singing before changing lanes and running a clothing import/export business that brought her from Shenzhen to Hong Kong.
Queenie chooses to work in the personal health and spa industry because of the physical and mental benefits it offers. An extremely caring and personal woman, she truly hopes for everyone to enjoy "a happy and healthy life and lifestyle."
Queenie shared what she feels sets Anyi Spa apart from other similar businesses, including the personal attention clients receive. "It’s not just about getting an hour massage and never coming back. It’s about creating a relationship with our clients -- integrating massage therapy into their regular lifestyle routines for a continual, therapeutic effect," she said.
Massage therapy is just as beneficial to the mind as it is to the body, according to Queenie. "It connects your mental and physical spaces," she said.
Queenie explained what makes the Eastern and Western traditional and modern techniques used at the spa unique.
Eastern massage is mainly based on acupuncture points and the energy points (meridians) that connect the body. By massaging and applying pressure to these specific areas, the body’s energy flow is returned to an optimal level.
Western massage focuses on working out the kinks and strains within the muscles and joints and creates a connection between the body and spirit through music and aromatherapy practices.
"The services we provide fit just about any person and any situation," Queenie said.
For example, the spa's first clients were a newly-married couple who wanted a couples massage. Their interest was to relax and feel connected to one another during their session -- a combination of mental and physical relaxation.
Another one of Anyi Spa's first clients called to ask about Esalen Massage, "which is more of an inward mental journey than a therapeutic treatment," according to Queenie, who had heard about this technique and studied it before briefly.
While Anyi didn’t offer this type of treatment, Queenie talked to the client and agreed to provide what he requested. In preparation for the appointment, Queenie went back to the basics she was familiar with and conducted additional research on Esalen Massage.
During the appointment, the customer stated that his left leg hurt due to driving all day. In response, Queenie personalized his treatment with a combination of Esalen and acupressure massage techniques. The customer appreciated her attention to his needs and has become a regular weekly client.
"A good massage has a repairing effect on the damage to the body and reduces mental fatigue," Queenie explained.
Anyi Spa is a place to unwind during or after a busy day at work, school, or any other time. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The spa is located on the second floor of 185B Lincoln St. off Rte. 3A.
The overall goal is "to do everything well and earnestly and to provide the most appropriate service to meet the needs of our clients," Queenie said.
In addition to running the spa, Queenie enjoys the quiet, residential community of Hingham and its shoreline and wooded areas.

I had a very disappointing experience at this massage location and will not be returning
– They changed my appointment time last minute from 1:30 to 1:00 PM.
– When I explained I would be running late, the therapist assured me I could still receive a full hour massage. However, the massage didn’t start until around 1:20 PM and was wrapped up before 2:05 PM—definitely not a full hour as promised which is ridiculous
– To make matters worse, I only received a back massage and was told that if I wanted my front worked on, I’d need to book a 90-minute session next time
– The therapist rushed me out because another customer was waiting for their 2pm appointment, which felt incredibly unprofessional.
– I’ve never encountered a place that charges $80 for a full hour and expects a great tip but delivers only about 40 minutes or less of service
