Submitted by Christine Smith and the Dorothy Galo Celebrations Committee
As you may know, Hingham’s Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Dorothy Galo, will be retiring this summer. To recognize her 56 years of dedication to the Town and to the education of our children, a scholarship in her honor has been established and will be administered by the Town of Hingham Scholarship Committee.
The Superintendent Dorothy H. Galo Scholarship will be presented annually to a Hingham High graduate and will recognize recipients who demonstrate a strong work ethic, academic achievement, an interest in pursuing a math, science, or STEM education, and leadership qualities among peers.
It is our sincere hope to fund this award in time for Dot to make the first award this May at the HHS Senior Awards Ceremony. To achieve that goal, we will need to raise a minimum of $20,000 in the next few months. Please know that your contribution made to the Town of Hingham qualifies as a tax deduction under S170 (c) (1) of the IRC as it is made for a public purpose.
There are two ways to donate:
One is by check made out to the Town of Hingham and delivered or sent to: Treasurer/Collector, Town of Hingham, 210 Central St, Hingham, MA 02043. Please indicate in the note section of the check: Superintendent Dorothy H. Galo Scholarship.
The other way to donate is to click online here. Electronic donations via the above link can be made by check and by credit card.
There are many worthwhile organizations in the community asking for your donations; we hope you will consider one that celebrates our own distinguished educator, Dorothy Galo and supports HHS students.
