The Beth waterfront restaurant and bar will open soon under the ownership of the O'Connor family of Boston restaurant fame, featuring coastal-New American cuisine with global influences, carefully crafted cocktails, local beers, and a spacious outdoor patio, all with a casual feel.
The Select Board approved on Tuesday night the issuance of common victualler, all-alcoholic beverages, and entertainment licenses for the new restaurant, which will be open seven days a week and have a 230-seat capacity, including the seasonal outdoor dining area.
The indoor entertainment will consist of background music, 10 TVs, and live non-amplified music featuring up to four instrumentalists/vocalists.
Carlie O'Connor, a longtime Hingham resident who lives near the Shipyard with her family, said that she and other members of her family are "excited to be bringing this concept to life."
She explained how the name "The Beth" came to be. "It refers to the Bethlehem Steel Company, one of the largest shipbuilding operations in the United States during World War II, based at the Hingham Shipyard," she said. "It's a cool name, celebrating the hardworking men and women who [participated in the shipbuilding effort] there."
Select Board member William Ramsey, who knows the O'Connor family, thinks The Beth "will be a great match at this location. There's tons of excitement surrounding the opening of this restaurant."
He noted that during a particular time period, Bethlehem Steel was producing "a destroyer a day and was said to have turned the tide" of the war in the Pacific.
"We look forward to the success of your business," Select Board Chair Joseph Fisher said.

Carlie: A big Hingham “Welcome” to the Hingham Shipyard! and shout out to you and your family. Thanks for coming to town. It’s great to see the addition of another restaurant to the Shipyard and we wish you success!
Congratulations O’Connor family and thank you for adding to Hingham’s spectacular restaurant scene. We are sooooo lucky!!!
I cannot wait! Will we be seeing the live entertainment on Friday nights again?
We needed something better the same scene was getting boring over here. We need also other children friendly restaurants as well. Not much for kids to do at the shipyard.🇺🇸👏
