Fourth of July Parade buttons on sale at local businesses to raise money for parade

2022 Button Winner-Lauren Augier from Saint Paul's School

June 1, 2022 By Carol Britton Meyer

Fourth of July Parade buttons to help raise funds for the popular event are now on sale at local businesses and other locations around town.

"A dollar [donation] for a button is nice, but more is appreciated. Everything goes toward the parade," Fourth of July Parade Committee Chair Jim Murphy told the Hingham Anchor.

Lauren Augier from Saint Paul's School designed this year's button. Fifth-grade students submitted designs from all the town's schools based on the 2022 parade theme, "History Happens Here." There were 143 entries, judged by nine committee members.

The design Lauren presented depicts a Hingham Bucket, "which is perhaps the most famous emblem from the 19th century and was a major source of non-agricultural income for the town," an announcement from the parade committee noted.

Although there is only one button winner, the committee also mentioned three other noteworthy button designs by Phoebe Hertzog, an East School student, and Louisa Stevenson and Lyla Wagner, both Foster School students.
