Christina Courtin has performed on Saturday Night Live and the Late Show With David Letterman. She was tagged to play music for the Academy Award-winning film Moonlight. And she comfortably straddles the classical and pop music worlds, having been on stage with everyone from Yo-Yo Ma to Beyonce.
Then there’s her song-writing, brought alive with her unparalleled voice. The New York Times says it “feels uniquely otherworldly, as if it couldn’t be entirely human born.” The New Yorker comments that she “turns vocal cartwheels while belting out jazz-inflected rock, blues, and folk.”
Now Courtin is coming to the intimate setting of the Ames Chapel for one night of heart-stirring music on Thursday, September 22nd, from 7 to 9 pm.
She puts on a great show in every sense of the word. Broadway World notes, “As anyone who’s caught one of Christina Courtin’s live performances can attest, the New York City–based musician decisively takes over whatever space she’s occupying…her voice malleable and otherworldly” and by turns “warm, gentle, and dreamy….darker, moodier.” Says NPR, she is “known for her honest and effortless live show.”
At the Ames, Courtin will be backed by Mike LaValle on bass; Danny Fox on piano (yes, we are bringing in a piano for Courtin’s performance); and Chris Parker on guitar and drums.
Doors will open at 6:30 for wine, beer, and hors d’oeuvres; there’ll be a short intermission between two 45-minute sets; and, after the show, a chance to meet Christina and her fellow musicians (with another glass of wine and more nibbles).
