Francis Leo (Frank) of Hingham died peacefully at Linden Ponds on August 22, 2022. He was 97. He formerly lived in Westwood MA, Denver CO, Wilmington MA and Charlestown MA.
Frank was married for 53 years to his beloved Ruth (Young) Brennan, who died in 2021. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Henry T. Brennan and Mary Jane (Sadler) Brennan and his brothers Henry T. Brennan, Jr. and Paul Joseph Brennan.
He was a kind and loving father to his four children from a previous marriage, William P. Brennan and his wife Gail of Ocala, FL. Holly J. Bloomfield of Bedford, MA, Nancy A. Marrone of Tewksbury, MA and Lisa K. Williams and her husband, Peter of Denver, CO. He was the uncle of Judith Brennan and Mary Brennan Caldwell of Charlestown, MA. He was a special “Grampie” to William P. Brennan Jr., Shaun Brennan, Elyse Bloomfield, David and Paul Marrone and Erica and Grace Williams. He is survived by five great-grand children.
Frank graduated from Boston English High School and Yale University, where he earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. During WWII, he served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy. Frank had a distinguished forty-two year career with the Stone and Webster Engineering Corp, designing and bringing into operation many large power plants. Some included: Northfield Mountain Pumped Storage, Rocky Reach Hydroelectric and the Cabin Creek Pumped Storage Plant. He held professional engineering certifications in six states where he worked on projects, often as a Consulting Engineer. He was a senior member of I.E.E.E. and published numerous technical papers. He also served as an expert witness on several anti-trust suits.
In retirement, he and Ruth travelled widely. He especially enjoyed spending the month of March in Siesta Key, FL. Frank loved woodworking and made many clocks, including several grandfather clocks. He was also interested in the stock market and read the Wall Street Journal every day.Frank will be lovingly remembered for the wisdom he shared with others. He was a good listener; storyteller, family historian and he always left you with a smile. He will be sorely missed.
Frank and Ruth will be buried together at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, MA on October 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM following a graveside ceremony.
