On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, the HHS Class of 2021 visited Grand Army of The Republic (GAR) Hall for Sophomore History Field Day for the 10th Annual event

Special speakers included WWII veteran Hank Maude, Korea War veteran Herm Messmer, Vietnam War veteran Jack Darrow, Desert Storm Veteran Joachim Borowski, Operation Iraqi Freedom mother-daughter veteran duo, Marilyn Gonzales and daughter Jessica Pedrazza of the Massachusetts Army National Guard 1058th Transportation Company and Global War on Terrorism veteran, Senior Chief Petty Officer Keith Jermyn, United States Navy.

After the guest speakers, students toured GAR Hall, having the opportunity to view the historical uniforms, rifles and military memorabilia on display courtesy of Marine Corps veteran, Scott McMillan and Navy veteran Don Lincoln.   Students were especially interested after interacting with the veterans. Especially after trying on a standard 30lb field pack and the 65lbs of additional body armor worn by servicemen. this gear typically worn in the desert with temperatures in excess of 120 degree.

Thank you to HHS Class of 2021, the Hingham High School History Department, and most importantly our Veterans who made today a wonderful learning experience for all.
