Full of talent and midway through the season, the Hingham Varsity Boys soccer team is a work in progress.

Before the week of October 10, the Hingham Varsity Boys soccer team had been on a convincing winning streak. Their past six matches had resulted in a collective score of 33-1 against various South Shore rivals. The streak included dominating wins over Silver Lake and Duxbury. Senior forwards Aidan Brazil, Cole Sampson and others poured in goals while the midfield and defense easily managed the matches.

Despite the momentum, Hingham knew the matches last week were going to be challenging.

The team was scheduled for Tuesday against Pembroke and Thursday against Marshfield. These back-to-back matches would help sort out a crowded top-of-the Patriot's League table. It was also an opportunity to benchmark themselves mid-season against this year's top local competition.

While the matches were close in scores, Hingham missed out on both opportunities.

On Tuesday, Hingham lost 2-0 against a strong Pembroke despite dominating long stretches of the match. The visiting Titans converted the handful of chances they earned and their mistake-free game made the difference at the 90-minute mark.

Thursday's away game against Marshfield provided a chance for redemption.

It was a windy and rain-soaked match that required composure from both teams. Like Tuesday, Hingham dominated for long stretches of the match. There were several opportunities for the Harborman to score including a tidy 1-2 flick-on between Brazil and Senior Jack Murtagh in the opposing team's 18-yard box. But, late match in the match, Marshfield hit Hingham on a transition and scored the only goal of the day.

Undoubtedly, Hingham has the talent and depth for another deep playoff run this year. They'll look to use the final six matches to fine-tune the team for the post-season.
