Hingham Little League received a nod of approval from the School Committee Monday night to construct a 10- by 20-foot shed on Middle School property to provide storage for equipment and supplies associated with proper maintenance of the field.

HLL recently funded some major field renovations, "and it has become a highly used location for many of our games," HLL Fields and Equipment Commissioner Jeff Deady told the School Committee before the vote.

Properly maintaining the field "allows us to give our kids the safest and most professional looking fields around," he said.

The shed will be constructed by Chapin's Shed Manufacturers of Whitman, Mass., fully paid for by HLL, delivered preassembled, and then donated to the town under Hingham Public Schools ownership -- subject to Select Board approval and the issuance of the required building permit(s). HLL will be responsible for maintaining the shed.

In other business at the meeting, Hingham Unity Council member Andrew Turner was on hand to announce the establishment of two new scholarships for graduating Hingham High School seniors.

They are the $1,000 HUC-Camilla Roundtree METCO Scholarship -- to be awarded to an outstanding student in the Hingham METCO program -- and the $1,000 HUC Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging Scholarship -- to be awarded to a HHS students "who shows an exemplary commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at the high school and/or in the Hingham community."

Full details and applications will be posted on the HUC website, https://hinghamunity.org/, soon. HUC will pay the scholarship awards directly to the recipients.
