Citizen engagement is at the core of Hingham’s character.  In Hingham, citizens serve on a wide range of on town boards and committees, and new members are always welcome.

As we begin this year's appointment process, the Selectmen and the Moderator will host an Open House at Town Hall on Wednesday, May 29th at 7:00 PM.  Interviews for appointments will begin that evening at 7:30 PM.  Interviews will also be held from 7:00 to 9:00 PM on the following days:  Monday, June 10; Tuesday, June 11; Wednesday, June 12; and Monday, June 17.

You can arrange an interview time by completing a Talent Bank form and returning it to the Selectmen’s office.  You may also get in touch with Sharon Perfetti at Town Hall, who is scheduling interviews.  Ms. Perfetti’s direct dial is 781.804.2402 and her e-mail address is perfettis@hingham-ma.gov.

What do these appointed boards and committees do? Some address zoning and conservation issues.  Others focus on town finances, capital investment and audit.  Others on the harbor, historic preservation and natural resources.  Still others on energy use, recycling, affordable housing and elder affairs. It’s a long and varied list.

The Town of Hingham website is the perfect place to get information on committee service.  Just click on the Quick Link captioned “Committees,” and you will see the many options open to you.  The website will give you a good grasp of what each committee does, how often it meets and the like.  You can also find the Talent Bank form on the town website and you can complete it on-line.

Your readiness to give your time and talent is essential to Hingham’s future.  The work is interesting, essential and rewarding.  Please step up and get involved.
