Artisans in the Square reopening soon; new soap maker will be Artisan of the Month

April 17, 2023 Submitted by Sandi Smith of Artisans in the Square

Artisans in the Square, located at 63 South Street, Hingham is pleased to announce their newest member, Gerry Swirbalus of Lily and Evy Soap Design.

A long-time Weymouth resident, Gerry has always been interested in crafts, whether  making a ceramic dog in 5th grade or creating wedding or party invitations later on in life.

She always admired handmade soap, but there was never enough free time to pursue it. However,  once she retired that all changed. With many YouTube tutorials on soap making, Gerry volunteered to make soap bars for a baby shower, and they were a hit.

Years later Gerry is still making soap — whether for a large wedding order or a single bar, and she enjoys the process.  Gerry gets some of her inspiration from all sorts of situations. For instance, when in a bakery, she’ll start taking pictures of all the pretty cakes; when she sees an unusual color combination on a dress, she’ll take pictures to remember and try out in making soap.

Artisans members are very excited to have Gerry joining them when the shop reopens. Due to the extremely cold temperatures in early February, the shop has been closed for repairs but will be opening very soon.  When we do, Gerry will have the front and center table as our Artisan of the Month.
