Foster Aborn

ABORN, Foster Litchfield, 88, of Hingham, MA died peacefully at Hebrew SeniorLife Rehabilitation on April 7th, 2023 of complications from Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his loving wife and adored partner of 35 years, Sara “Ginger” Holbrook. Foster was a devoted father to his two children, Justin Aborn and his wife Robin of Hingham, and Hilary Aborn of Hingham. He was the beloved grandpa to two granddaughters, Olivia of Brooklyn, NY and Lindsey of Hingham. He also leaves Ginger’s son, Holbrook Gracia and Holbrook’s son, Tristan. Foster was predeceased by his first wife Julika (Tamm) and by his brother John.

Foster was born and raised in Rhode Island and attended Dartmouth College and the Amos Tuck School of Business in Hanover, NH, earning a BA in economics and a Masters in Business Administration. Upon graduation he began his long financial career at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1969 Foster moved his young family to Hingham and joined the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company where he advanced over the years to become Chief Investment Officer and Vice Chairman of the Board.

Foster was a gifted leader and willing mentor to countless people in his professional and personal life. He took great interest in all people and loved to make personal introductions whenever he could. He invested his time and talents in institutions and organizations that served the disadvantaged. He served on numerous Boston and Maine nonprofits. He was a Trustee of the Beth Israel Hospital, where he served as Chairman of the Finance Committee. Foster’s decades of generous engagement enriched the arts, sports, financial and medical institutions in Boston.

A memorial service will be held Saturday May 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Ship Church Meeting House, 90 Main Street, Hingham, MA.

The family wishes to thank the exceptional nurses, staff and administrators at Hebrew SeniorLife at the Roslindale memory care facility who so lovingly cared for Foster the last 18 months of his life.
