An incident occurred in Stoneham on December 26, 2022, involving one of our personnel, Officer Joel Salituri. The Hingham Police Department (“HPD”) has been informed of allegations that include brandishing a firearm during a verbal altercation and use of racial slurs. An arraignment was held on April 26, 2023.

HPD has been in contact with the Stoneham Police as well as the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office. HPD is fully cooperating in their investigation. HPD has also been conducting its own Internal Affairs investigation. Officer Salituri was placed on leave on December 27, 2022, and will not be eligible to work as an HPD officer until this matter has been resolved.

The Town of Hingham is deeply concerned with these allegations. As more information becomes available, we will consider all options up to and including termination.  The Town remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy regarding discrimination of any nature.
