On Saturday March 25, 2023, a capacity crowd attended the Hingham High School Athletic Hall of Fame’s induction ceremony held at The South Shore Country Club. This marked the twelfth induction ceremony since the founding of the HHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. Many past inductees, coaches, family, and friends attended the event to honor the Class of 2023 inductees.
Bill Barges, Chairman of the Athletic Hall of Fame and former Director of Athletics at Hingham High School for 24 years, began the evening welcoming and thanking all 189 guests in attendance. Bill acknowledged that many people were responsible for making the event a success starting with the fifteen dedicated members of the HHS Athletic Hall of Fame Board of Directors. Most of the board members are also Athletic Hall of Fame athletes or coaches themselves and continue to support and contribute to Hingham High School Athletics.
To kick off the celebration, the group presented the Friend of Hingham High School Athletics Award to Maryellen Holler, the administrative assistant for the HHS Athletic Department, to recognize her dedication and support of all the high school athletes and coaches. The reigns were then passed over to, Scott Wahle, Hingham High School graduate Class of 1971, talented television personality and entertainer, who once again did a fabulous job as the Master of Ceremonies. Scott gave a brief description of the accomplishments for each 2023 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, presenting a total of fourteen awards during the evening. The Hingham High School Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2023 inductees are a very talented group of athletes and represent a variety of sports. The accomplishments of these athletes include school records, all-scholastic honors from multiple newspapers, league MVPs, team captains, leading scorers, successful collegiate careers and even a Major League Baseball draft selection. All inductees are elected with consideration of integrity, character, dedication, sportsmanship as well as athletic accomplishments and contribution to Hingham High School.
