Hingham Police selling pink patches in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 3, 2023 By Carol Britton Meyer

The Hingham Police Department is  partnering for the eighth year with the Pink Patch Project in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a global campaign that takes place throughout the month of October to raise awareness and support for people affected by the disease.

The Pink Patch Project is a collaborative effort among public safety agencies nationwide to bring attention to the fight against breast cancer and to support cancer research organizations.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, uniformed HPD officers are allowed to replace their standard shoulder patches with the Hingham Police Pink Patch “as a reminder of our commitment,” according to Lt. Steven Dearth.

The goals of this project are to increase education about the importance of early detection and prevention and to raise funds to further research and treatment for those who have, or are battling, cancer. All proceeds from the sale of Hingham Police pink patches will be donated to the Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

“More than 800 police agencies across the country now participate in the Pink Patch Project,” Dearth said.

The commemorative Hingham Police Pink Patch and  K-9 Pink Patch may be purchased at any time during the year at the police department front desk, Police Records, or by mailing a check payable to Hingham Police at Pink Patch Project, 212 Central St., Hingham, MA 02043.
