South Shore Community End-of-Life Care concerned citizens invites community members to participate in an Educational Forum on Massachusetts End-of-Life Options Act on Tuesday, December 12, 7-8:30PM at Hingham Library in the Whiton Room. The forum will provide in-depth information, and time for sharing thoughts and questions, as we seek to empower terminally ill community residents to have their own choice at the end of life.

The End-of-Life Options Act in the Legislature – Senate Bill 1331 and House Bill 2246 – would alleviate unbearable suffering for terminally ill patients legally enabling them to seek medical aid in dying (MAID). The Bill provides strict eligibility requirements, includes many safeguards for patients, caregivers, and medical personnel (including pharmacists), and makes coercion illegal. A Beacon Research survey of MA voters in March 2023 found that nearly 73% support such a bill and even more — 79% — support it after learning about its safeguards. MAID is a proven practice by decades of experience in Oregon (1994), Washington (2008), Montana (2009), Vermont (2013), California (2015), Colorado (2016), the District of Columbia (2016), Hawai‘i (2018), New Jersey (2019), Maine (2019) and New Mexico (2021).
