Hingham Wrestling Continues Its Winning Season

At 8-0 Hingham Wrestling is off to its best start in years by soundly beating Whitman-Hanson, Norton, Sharon and Franklin on the mat over the holiday break. Coach Paul Canniff expressed how he is, “Proud of the way that we’re wrestling right now at this early point in the season”.

In the highly anticipated quad match-up, Hugh McGourty, Johnny Morris, Ian Prebble, Cole Riordan, and Aidan Chan excelled at every metric winning all 3 of their matches with multiple pins on the day. Mia Dineen, Julian Fopiano, Tommy Riordan, JD Lucas, Jakob Wozny, Tucker Burke, and Eamon Murphy all bested their opponents powering Hingham to sweep this meet for the first time.

Hingham also participated in the multi-state Marshfield Holiday Tournament placing 9th out of 38 teams. Finalist Aiden Chan placed 2nd in his weight class after two days of grueling matches. Also finishing with impressive rankings in the top 12 of their respective weight classes – Mia Dineen, Ian Prebble, Johnny Morris, Tucker Burke and Hugh McGourty.

Further demonstrating the depth of this wrestling team, the JV squad placed 1st overall in the tournament with Brooke Strachan, Joe Schirmer and Ned Buckley finishing 1st in their weight class.  Alec Menucci, Myles Figueroa, Tyler Peterson each finished 2nd. And Noah Kennedy, Troy Leibovici, Matt Rulli, Matt Radulski, Jack Stocks and Jack Ferris finished 3rd.  An impressive overall showing for this highly anticipated annual tournament.

Come cheer on the team Saturday Jan 6th at HOME as they face Braintree, Oliver Ames and Somerset-Berkeley starting at 9AM.  Concessions will be excellent featuring hot food selections from Sea Street Pizza in Hull.
