The Garden Club of Hingham, established in 1924, is celebrating its centennial year with the community by hosting a garden tour at ten locations throughout town on Sunday, June 9, 10:00 a.m. – 5p.m.

In keeping with the club’s centennial year theme, Honoring Our Past, Cultivating Our Future, the tour will showcase gardens varying in size and style ranging from classic and modern to rustic at 9 private homes, as well as at the historic Old Ordinary.

“It is amazing to think back to the small group of Hingham residents who came together in 1924 to share ideas and discuss their mutual love of gardening and horticulture.” said Christina Farren, president of the Garden Club of Hingham. “Today, we are grateful to the original members and the hundreds of Hingham residents who have served the Garden Club of Hingham over the past 100 years. The Centennial Garden Tour reflects the club’s dedication and longstanding mission to enhance the natural beauty of our town and to promote horticulture through gardening, floral design, landscape design, and the conservation of our natural resources. We are grateful to all of our tour hosts, sponsors, the Hingham Historical Society, and committee chairs for making it possible for us to give our community a glimpse into both the artistry and science that go into creating a magnificent garden.”

Attendees of the garden tour can check in at the Benjamin Lincoln House and then easily view the nearby garden at Old Ordinary. While there, they can enjoy light refreshments before heading off to the other beautiful examples of the vision, talent, knowledge, and hard work of the gardeners who graciously opened their yards in locations spanning from Downtown Hingham, Crow Point, and Bradley Woods, to World’s End, and South Hingham. A couple of the properties will have the added treat of original art and art actually in-progress from either an owner or from visiting artists.

A booklet that will serve as a ticket and a guide and reference will be given to each attendee. It will offer detailed descriptions of each garden and any other significant aspects of the properties. In addition, a map showing each location will be provided. Gardens can be visited in any order.

Tickets for the Centennial Garden Tour are $45.00 and can be purchased online at www.gardenclubofhingham.org until 4:00 p.m. on June 8. On the day of the tour, tickets will be $50.00 and can only be purchased with a check or cash at check-in at the Benjamin Lincoln House 181, North Street.

  1. Seriously, $40-$50 for a tour of plants? I bet I have more to show and I’ll charge $10 at my house. Even more, I can give a summer tour of my vegetable garden on top of Turkey hill for free.
