Hingham Girls Golf has had an impressive season this year, finishing with an 11-2 record and clinching the Patriot League Championship for the second consecutive year. They were able to squeeze by NDA in one of their matches this season and came out on top against an undefeated Dragons team, allowing them to finish first in the league. Head Coach Samantha Leary spoke about the root of her team’s success this season and how each girl’s individual accomplishments led to the overall strength of the team.

Coach Leary attributed much of their success to the team’s depth this year and described the success that many have had. Freshman number one Callie Crean has had an outstanding season going 11-2 and holding up extremely well against tough competition, especially as an underclassman. Senior captain Lauren Weber has found great success this season as well with a 10-2 record and has been a key player. Junior captain Becca Kardoos had a 10-3 record and senior captain Claire Joyce had a 10-1-2 record, both contributing greatly to the teams consistency this year. Junior Elizabeth Haughey had an impressive 11-0 record which has been key to their success in close matches, sophomore Finley Erick had a 9-1-1 record, sophomore Elbe Paddon had a 6-2-3 record, and finally, a recent addition to the team sophomore Taylor Sullivan, had a 7-1-3 record. All in all, Coach Leary said in regard to every one of her players, “they are such hard workers so I am so proud of them.”

The girl’s skills this season have been a huge part of the accomplishments of the team this year. However, they also had a simple yet great mindset going into this season fostered by their coach which has allowed them to compete phenomenally this year. Coach Leary simply stated, “It’s awesome if we are successful but … we are there to have fun and learn the game of golf because it’s such an important skill for young women.” To help them this season as well, they had assistant coach Michael Leary, JV Coach Lisa Vialle, Chris Riley, Mike Libby, and GM Kevin Whalen about whom Coach Leary stated, “it is because of their unwavering support of the girls golf program that we have been successful.” She also gave a huge highlight to the staff and pros at South Shore Country Club for all they have done to make an impact on the team.

This team has a lot to be proud of from the season both what they have achieved as a whole and what each player has accomplished in their matches. The success this season will set a great example for future years and with many promising underclassmen and rising seniors returning next year, we should expect more outstanding seasons to come.
