Way Back Wednesday: View from Barnes’ Hill

Barne’s Hill

May 29, 2024 By Geri Duff

The Kimball Family has been quite generous with their photo collection. They loaned an album to the Bare Cove Fire Museum and then gave it to the Hingham Historical Society. The caption from the original album reads: “This shows a picture taken from Barnes’ Hill showing his wharf, our wharf (Kimball’s) and the chimney of the Howard foundry beyond that. At the time this was taken, the lumber yard was owned by David Cushing, 2 nd and the framing lumber was brought in by schooner.” This view is looking across Steamboat wharf today’s location of the Hingham Maritime Center. The photo is in digital form at the Bare Cove Fire Museum and the original is in the Hingham Historical Society Archives.
