Careful planning, some geometry and great teamwork resulted in the magnificent display of 389 American flags on the Town Hall lawn.
A dozen Hingham Police Officers were joined by several Parade Committee members in placing the flags to kickoff the 50 Flags Campaign. The 389 flags salute the 389 years since Hingham was founded and were all placed three feet apart.
In addition, flags were placed at the Hingham Police HQ, all three Hingham Fire Stations and the GAR Hall. Talbots stepped up again this year to sponsor the placement of 100 flags around the Lincoln Statue Park.
The placements were to help kickoff the 50 Flags Campaign fundraiser to support the 2024 4th of July Parade. The campaign is the biggest fundraiser to help underwrite the annual cost of $ 55,000 to hold the parade. No tax dollars are spent on the parade.
Registration is now open until 6 p.m. Friday, June 21. The cost for the two week rental of 50 flags is $ 100 and for 25 flags the cost is $ 65. After the June 21st deadline, the prices increase to $150 and $100 respectively. Flags will be installed Saturday June 29 and removed Saturday July 13th.
