For the second time this season, the Harborwomen ran away with the game in the second half against Longmeadow at home.

This time, it was for a spot in the MIAA Divsion II Final Four.

Hingham’s 13-8 win was fueled by Grace Maroney’s 5 goals.  Maeve Maroney and Neely Sgobbo each netted two goals of their own.

A little post game celebration after the Harborwomen’s 13-8 win over Longmeadow.

“We played as a team, we settled in and everyone contributed in that game,” head coach Carla Farkes said after the game. “We played good solid team defense and created some turnovers that led to fast break goals.  We didn’t let any of the momentum they had take the wind out of our sails so to speak.  And anytime they went on a run, someone made a play, actually several different people made plays, which allowed us to stay in front the whole game.”

It was a strange start to the game. Longmeadow started the game a man down as they were issued a green card for delay of game after arrived to the game 1 hour and 15 minutes late.  Maroney, who has 17 goals in three playoff games, took the ball from the opening whistle and scored within seconds, setting the tone for the game.

Junior Grace Maroney has racked up 17 goals in three playoff games this season. She already crossed the career 100 goal milestone a few weeks ago and well on her way to 150.

“We all stuck together,” Maroney explains. “We were really motivated.  We haven’t made it this far in a really long time.  We supported each other, even when they gained momentum, which I think is a testiment to how together our team is.”

The Harborwomen will face cross-town rivals NDA on Monday at 4pm in Scituate.  The Cougars are a fimiliar opponent that have gotten the better of Hingham in recent meetings.  But all that matters in the game in front of them.

“It’s going to be a big game,” adds Maroney. “But we are going into with a new mentality and I really think if we all stick together it will be a really good game.”
