One of the amusements in the famed Melville Garden of Crow Point was the Flying Horse Carousel. This type of carousel did not have a floor, instead the horses were suspended from a center frame. As the ride picked up speed the horses would fly out. In the advertisements for Melville Garden, most of the buildings were white with red roofs. The Flying Horses building, in the center of the peninsula, had an eye catching red and yellow roof surrounded by a white picket fence. The Melville Garden was active between 1871 and 1896.
