Robert B. Olsen

Robert B. Olsen passed away suddenly on Saturday, 1 June 2024. Being a long time Shetland Sheepdog owner, trainer and dog show handler and judge he was doing what he loved best at the time of his passing.

Bob was born on 20 April 1949 in Weymouth, MA and resided in Hingham, MA for the majority of his life attending and graduating from the Hingham Public Schools in 1967. He went on to graduate from the University of Massachusetts, Boston with a BS in Biology and followed this with a Masters degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Wildlife Management in 1972.

After his education in worked for multiple companies in his field of expertise including Foster Wheeler. Later he worked for Home Depot in “semi-retirement” before turning full time to his long time love for Shetland Sheepdogs. Bob founded Bare Cove Shelties in 1978. A dedicated breeder Bare Cove produced many breed and agility champions. As a breeder, handler, AKC judge and friend and mentor to many in the Shetland Sheepdog community Bob will be remembered fondly.

Bob was the loving son of the late Lorraine and Herbert Olsen, devoted younger brother to Thomas L. Olsen of Hingham, MA and his late sister Leslie Langley of Chesterfield, VA. He is survived by his brother Tom, his sister’s partner Georgia Weetman of Chesterfield, VA, his niece Dona and her husband Mark Blais of Midlothian VA and their daughters Gabrielle LaChance-Rogers and Kirstyn Blais.
