The Hingham Harbor area has seen many changes over the years. In the past there were commercial wharves for steamboats, lumber and coal and an iron foundry. Across the road from the water was once Litchfield’s auto dealership, a bowling alley, the A & P Supermarket, Best Chevrolet and Steve Mehl’s Boat House. This is a 1977 view of Steve Mehl’s Boat House. You can catch a glimpse of the Sunoco, Chevron and Gulf Stations just on this corner of Summer Street. At one time there were nine gas stations between the harbor and the downtown area. Photo by Geri Duff.
I think that was still Quinn’s Bike Shop in background, Cafe Tosca now….thanks for the memories!
Love Geri’s “Way Back Wednesday” features.
