Atlantic Symphony Orchestra Celebrates Rodgers & Hammerstein This Sunday

August 19, 2024 By The Atlantic Symphony Orchestra

Atlantic Symphony Orchestra celebrates Rodgers & Hammerstein this Sunday, August 25, at a family concert at Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham, featuring two beloved local singers and a fun four-hand piano duo.

This annual family concert, held on the gorgeous grounds of the Abbey, is always an audience favorite. Families bring a blanket or chairs, have a picnic, play some cornhole – and this year for the first time – have a delicious dessert from Nona’s Homemade Ice Cream Truck.

On Sunday, ASO will present beloved musical theater vocalist Caroline deLima Rubb as well as Eric deLima Rubb, a well-known Massachusetts theater performer who is seen regularly in Blue Man Group at Boston’s Charles Playhouse. ASO will also welcome back the Psychopomp Ensemble, featuring pianists Xiaopei Xu and Chi Wei Lo, playing their special brand of eclectic four-hand piano interpretations. Maestro Jin Kim will host the event, welcoming the audience and introducing the performers and music.

Caroline deLima Rubb and Eric Rubb say they are looking forward to performing together on some of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most beautiful music, plus other musical theater pieces audiences will know and love. Rodgers & Hammerstein were prolific composers, writing musicals such as Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, The King & I and Carousel.

ASO Executive Director Tammy Lynch notes that this concert is the first of nine upcoming concerts in ASO’s 2024-2025 season, including six at Thayer’s Center for the Arts. “This is a terrific way to open our season, with fun and family. This year, we’re continuing our Beethoven Project while also beginning our celebration of Revolution250, honoring the South Shore’s critical role in fighting for the country’s independence, so this cross-genre performance kicks things off perfectly.”

Sunset at the Abbey takes place outdoors on the expansive lawn of Glastonbury Abbey, 16 Hull Street, Hingham. Audience members should bring chairs or a blanket, and a picnic. Tickets are $30 for adults and seniors, $15 for students, and free for all children under 12, plus those with EBT or WIC cards as part of the Mass Cultural Councils Card to Culture Program.
