Hingham youth football teams completed an opening week sweep as the veteran squad of 8th graders were downright dominant in beating Weymouth 38-14. Starting with a no huddle offense running multiple shifts, Hingham quickly had Weymouth on their heels as skillful QB Hudson Garrity connected with his hot new weapons Cole and Rhett Shevlin for consecutive first down passes. Just two minutes into the game Hudson Garrity threw a strike to the reliable Shamus Devine into the corner of the end zone for a touchdown. Coen Melgoza ran it in for the extra point for a 7-0 early lead.

Keeping with the same fast paced intensity the defense promptly brought the pressure as Cam Forger sacked the Weymouth QB and Daniel Lovendale broke up a pass to force a turnover on downs. The offensive line was a model of execution as Frank Cavagnaro, Will Berkeley and Brooks Johnson cleared a lane for Johnny Heller to run for a 48 yard touchdown taking a 13-0 lead. Not being deterred Weymouth fought back with a 55 yard TD run but Ryan Crespi blocked the extra point that cut the lead to 13-6. Seeking to take back the momentum, Cole Shevlin caught a screen pass from Garrity and followed key blocks from Braden Huber, Will Taylor and Denny Costello to sprint 66 yards for a TD to go on top 19-6 still in the first quarter. Mickey Syp, Teddy Lovendale and Neil Deininger made critical tackles to force a 4th and long where Ryan Crespi tackled the QB to force a turnover on downs to end the busy first quarter.

The defensive line of Braden Huber, Will Berkeley, Frank Cavagnaro and Shamus Devine dominated up front.

QB Garrity confused the defense with multiple shifts creating mismatches and hit a wide open Rhett Shevlin for an 85 yard TD catch and run to go up 25-6 to open the second quarter. On defense Ryan Crespi and Braden Oun sacked the Weymouth QB for a loss. But on the next play he threw a bomb that went for a 73 yard gain until the speedy Daniel Lovendale caught up with the receiver and tackled him at the 2 yard line to prevent the TD. A sack from Shamus Devine and a leaping pass break up from Johhny Heller kept Weymouth out of the end zone and deflated their drive. Capping matters off in the first half, RB Evan Tomasello followed blocks by Ezra Everly, Mason Devine and Frank Cavagnaro to sprint untouched 85 yards for a TD. On the extra point QB Neil Deininger threw a quick strike to Mason Aframe for a 32-6 lead at the half.

In the second half Weymouth took to the air trying to comeback but an aggressive defense led by Johhny Heller’s pass break up and Denny Costello’s QB sack forced a turnover on downs. QB Garrity was on target all afternoon this time hooking up with Shamus Devine for a 42 yard pass. On the next play Garrity used his legs and ran it in for the touchdown extending the lead to 38-6. The defense continued to spoil Weymouth’s tempo as Sam Godfrey broke up a pass in the end zone and Duncan Wilder, Neil Deininger and Jordan Owens-Ayala made hard hitting tackles. Weymouth managed to punch it in for a late TD as the 8th grade Raiders win 38-14.
