Police Log: Driver Arrested in Hingham for Third Offense Drunk Driving After Crash

Hingham, MA – A Weymouth man was arrested for third offense (felony) drunk driving after a noontime crash Tuesday. Seventeen opened bottles of vodka were found in his vehicle.

On July 9, 2019 at 11:55am Officers responded to two car crash at the Route 3A rotary on Summer St. The two drivers were not injured. Officers noticed one of the drivers was unsteady on this feet, swaying as he stood, had slurred speech and bloodshot and glassy eyes. As the driver looked for his registration, Officers saw 3 opened bottles of vodka in the driver’s door compartment.

The driver, who denied he had been drinking, agreed to perform a series of field sobriety tests. He was unable to successfully perform the tests. Officers placed him under arrest. Scattered throughout the passenger compartment were a total of 17 opened bottles of vodka. Several of the bottles were partially full and the others were empty. His vehicle, a 2019 Kia Soul, was towed.

Arrested was Wade Trent Hodges, age 57, of 122 Tall Oaks Drive, Apt. C, South Weymouth, MA. He was charged with: 1) Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol (3rd Subsequent Offense) 2) Negligent Operation 3) Open Containers of Alcohol in a Vehicle. The prior offenses were in 2002 and 1984. He was released after posting $200.00 cash bail for arraignment at Hingham District Court on July 10, 2019. A third or subsequent offense is a felony in Massachusetts.

The crash occurred in the Rotary when Mr. Hodges vehicle drove into the side of the other vehicle. The other vehicle, a 2017 Honda Ridgeline, was driven by a 59 year old Cohasset man. It was not towed. ### Contact P.I.O. Sgt. Steven Dearth
